Preposition Treasure Maps

We have been learning prepositions since the 2nd week of school. I'm using Multisensory Grammar and Easy Grammar. My student memorize the prepositions from their list. I broke the list into 5 sections and each week we learn signs or gestures to go with each prepostion. They teach the signs to their partner (I'm using Whole Brain Teaching, so we do the Teach - Okay). We practice them every day and take a quiz on Friday.

To see if my students were grasping prepositions and their use, our Reading Specialist suggested that the students create treasure maps using the prepositons we've already studied. I gave my students this assignment (oddly enough, it was Talk Like a Pirate Day) and told them they had to use at least 5 prepositions from their list.

They could choose any setting for their treasure map (my example was the school, ending in my classroom) and their treasure could be anything. They only rules were to use at least 5 prepositions that we've already learned, write in complete sentences, and underline the prepositions in green. I also told them that they could draw a map on the back when they finished writing their directions.

They had a blast doing these. I had a lot of requests to stay in during recess to work on them.
